Mercedes-AMG has made SUVs for years, but always based on Mercedes-Benz models. The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV is different: it was developed from scratch in Affalterbach, on AMG’s own electric architecture, and it is built at the Sindelfingen plant. It was unveiled in Stuttgart on 19 October, as part of the celebrations for Mercedes-Benz’s 140th anniversary.
It is the second car on the AMG.EA platform, after the electric GT 4-Door Coupé, and it shares its 800-volt technology and its axial-flux electric motors, developed with YASA, the British specialist owned by Mercedes-Benz.

The GT 63 is the headline act. Its three axial-flux motors, one at the front and two at the rear, produce up to 860 kW, or 1,169 hp, placing it among the most powerful SUVs on the market. With a rolling start, AMG quotes 0-100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds.

🔋 450 km in 10 Minutes
Charging is where the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV really stands out. With the larger 128 kWh battery, it accepts up to 710 kW at a fast charger, enough to add up to 450 km of WLTP range in ten minutes. A charge from 10% to 80% takes around 12 minutes, and the car also works at older 400-volt stations. At home, it charges at up to 11 kW.
🏎️ Built Like an AMG
The SUV weighs between 2,525 and 2,715 kg depending on the version, so AMG has given it serious hardware. The GT 63 comes as standard with AMG Active Ride Control+ and carbon-ceramic brakes, both optional on the GT 55. The design borrows from the GT 4-Door Coupé, with a large closed grille framed by light, matching rear lights and, on the GT 55 and GT 63, an active roof spoiler.
💶 Price and Availability
The GT 53 can be ordered in Europe from 20 October 2026, priced from €113,050 in Germany. The more powerful GT 55 and GT 63 will follow in spring 2027, with prices still to be announced.
🚗 The Electric Super-SUV Race
The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV arrives in a month full of electric performance. Tesla has just revealed its new Tesla Roadster, and Bentley has launched its first electric car, the Bentley Torcal. At the same time, Porsche has confirmed that its new flagship, the Porsche Mission S, will be combustion-only. The top of the market is splitting in two, and buyers now have more choice than ever.
🏡 Ready for the Costa del Sol
On the Costa del Sol, where SUVs are part of daily life between the beach, the golf courses and the mountain roads, an electric super-SUV makes a lot of sense. But it also changes what buyers expect from a home. Fast home charging, solar panels and garages designed for heavy electric vehicles are quickly becoming standard requests in Marbella’s luxury villas, and properties that already offer them have a clear advantage.
